Tokyo, Japan – Plexus Ventures is proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Tokyo Office in 2026 — two decades of dedicated service to Japanese pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer health, and medical device companies.
A Foundation Built on Experience
The Tokyo Office opened in January 2006, with Richard (Rich) Brown named as the first Head of Plexus Ventures (Japan). Rich brought deep, relevant experience to the role, having previously worked at Eli Lilly Japan’s Kobe headquarters and in Corporate Business Development in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he managed Asian and Japanese in- and out-partnering. This background allowed him to reestablish valuable prior contacts and cultivate productive new relationships across the Japanese pharmaceutical and medical device industries — relationships that remain central to our work today.
Two Decades of Growth
In its early years, the Tokyo Office conducted strategic assessments for Japan-based companies, including identifying acquisition targets in the U.S., licensing marketed products for the European affiliate of a major Japanese pharmaceutical company, and valuing a proposed joint venture between a pharmaceutical company and a contract manufacturer in Japan. Since then, our work has expanded to include introducing pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consumer health, and medical device opportunities for in-licensing by Japanese companies, as well as out-partnering the innovative assets of Japanese pharma and biotech companies with partners around the world.
As we mark this milestone, we are proud to carry forward a 20-year history of service to our Japanese partners and clients, and we look forward to continuing that partnership for many years to come.
