Celon Salmex®

Generic Dry Powder Inhaler

Background

Celon Pharma, a Poland-based pharmaceutical company, had successfully registered
and marketed in Poland, Salmex®, a generic dry powder inhaler containing fluticasone
and salmeterol and referencing Seretide® Diskus®. Plexus Ventures had previously
managed successful processes to secure partners for Salmex® in major European
countries and in China.

Objective

Celon Pharma engaged Plexus Ventures to secure a partner in the US who would
undertake US development and achieve the FDA’s AB-rating by demonstrating
Salmex® to be closely comparable to Advair® Diskus®. This would allow automatic
substitution at the pharmacy level and thereby greatly reduce the licensee’s expenditure
of marketing resources.

Process

Plexus Ventures prepared partnering documentation and leveraged its network to
rapidly contact companies experienced in marketing value-added generics and
respiratory products in the US. From initial contact with targets to signing of a definitive
agreement took 4 months.

Outcome

In December 2022, Zydus Worldwide, a global innovation driven healthcare company,
entered into a co-development and commercialization agreement for Salmex® in the
US. The agreement is for a period of seven years following commercial launch with
possibility of renewal. With this transaction completed, Plexus Ventures has secured
four partners for Celon’s Salmex® each with exclusivity in the high value markets.
